This residence was an exercise in breaking away from the traditional rectangular box; I wanted to create a home that is also a piece of livable sculpture. My inspiration came from natural crystalline and rock formations, leading to a design language based entirely on dynamic, angular geometry.
The exterior is a composition of sharply tilted planes, clad in a single, textured material to give the complex form a monolithic, unified character. It’s designed to look like a solid, protective shard that has emerged from the earth. The windows are not standard openings but are treated as facets of this crystalline structure, custom-shaped to follow the dramatic lines of the building and offering curated glimpses of the interior.
As dusk falls, the design’s duality becomes apparent. The rugged, fortress-like exterior begins to glow from within, revealing warm, inviting living spaces. This contrast is central to my concept: creating a private sanctuary that feels protected and cave-like, while still being filled with light and life. It’s an exploration of how unconventional forms can create profoundly personal and unique domestic experiences.
